Welcome to Nature House Preschool

A play based, place based, eco centered early learning program

WHAT WE KNOW

Every child is a unique individual who comes to school with diverse levels of knowledge about how the world works. According to current research, these children have at least one thing in common; that is how they best learn-
through inquiry through real-life context,
through exploration,
through explicit instruction.
With the exception of the last approach, these have something in common. They rely on play as the way to help children reach their learning goals. PLAY
Play nourishes every aspect of children’s development – it forms the foundation of intellectual, social, physical and emotional skills necessary for success in school and life. Play ‘paves the way for learning

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF BEING OUTDOOR ?

-Children develop stronger immune systems and tend to have lower stress levels compared to children that do not engage in outdoor play
– Children have a higher level of respect for themselves as well as for nature
are less likely to become obese if they engage in regular physical activity
-Children are able to test their strengths externally and internally by exploring questions such as: How high can I climb? Why does my heart pound when I run? Am I brave enough to jump from this platform?

-Children find it easier connect with community, earth and land, when they are surrounded by it
-Being outdoors will spark future conservationists that love and care for all things in nature

THE PROGRAM

The children have the opportunity to develop physically, cognitively, socially and linguistically during their time in nature. In the outdoor curriculum children are able to develop a deep relationship with their natural surroundings, to explore the edges of their personal physical abilities and to gain confidence in themselves and in others. The children using place-based experiences with an inquiry focus, create hands on investigations of their world within a naturally unfolding curriculum. Eco friendly gardening and food sustainability teachings intertwine the play immersed days.Positive social skills are modelled with an emphasis on ensuring respect for self and others, equal rights and opportunities for group members, and acceptance of all are differences. The teacher is there and present. The teachers is directly having a conversation, interactions and learning experiences with the children.Their interactions are genuine and meaningful. It becomes a natural community of learning together in a deep connected experience.
